Saraza, Mina cruise to victories in Toby’s netfest

MANILA, Philippines - Angelo Saraza downed Leo Angelo Cordero, 6-4, 6-2, and Zire Mina booted out Fernando Ceasar Po, 6-3, 6-1, to lead the charge in the 14-and-under of the 13th Toby’s Summer Tennis Festival at the Rizal Tennis Center yesterday.

Saraza will next take on third pick Tim Gumban, who drew an opening round bye, while Mina will face off with Joseph Gadon, who blanked Marlon Vincent Bautista, 6-0, 6-0.

Also advancing were Jibryl Rose Perpetua, Joshua Austria, Nolan Gagalac, Rewel Justiniani and Karl Baran, who beat Keith Andrew Caganda, 6-0, 6-0; John Zamora, 6-1, 6-1; Anthony Paul Padios, 6-0, 6-3; Lance Matthew Sy, 6-2, 6-4; and Antonio Relucio, 6-0, 7-6(4), respectively. 

Mina also advanced in the 16-under section after besting Gabriel Manalang, 8-5, to join Justine Camacho, who slammed John Christian Mates, 8-2, and Joseph Matthew Caballes, who downed Johan Bautista, 8-1.

In the non-ranking boys’ 12-under level, Nicos Ison, Johan Bautista, Vincent Johan Tenorio, Joaquin de Leon, Winifredo Borgonia, Marius Panahon and J.B. Cuarto all made it to the next round after hurdling their respective rivals. 

Ma. Patricia Lim, Gabrielle Quilala, Raiana Aquino, Kimberly Reyes and Ellaine Mae Ericoso also rolled into the next round of the girls’ 12-under section.

In the 10 years and under unisex bracket, Kay Ann Emana and Sean Andre Bernardo led the early winners with triumphs over Francis Angelo Guillermo, 6-2, 6-1, and JR Salangsang, 6-4, 10-4, respectively.

The event is presented by Toby’s Sports and Prince, in partnership with Smart, and in cooperation with the Philta, Equipe, Adidas and Gatorade.
