Philmasters dartfest unwraps tomorrow

MANILA, Philippines - The country’s leading dart masters clash for top honors in the Philmasters Darts Championships beginning tomorrow at the Makati Square Arena, second level, Makati Square on Chino Roces Ave., Makati City.

The three-day event ending Sunday is presented by the Darts Council of the Philippines and held under the auspices of the Philippine Sports Commission.

Sponsored by Senators Nancy Binay, Bong Revilla Jr. and Lito Lapid and Emmanuel Santos and backed by Jojo Claudio of Toby’s Sports, Unicorn Darts and Andy Mercado of Terton Craft, the event will feature a P25,000 Classified Doubles competition set at 4 p.m.

The P50,000 men’s Open singles, meanwhile, will be staged Saturday at 11 a.m. while the P8,000 women’s Open singles will kick off at 1 p.m.

Defending champions Vince Develos (men) and Arnie Ticman (women) head the roster in the singles competition where the single elimination format will be used. Both are ranking and rating events, according to the DCP and WDF.

Young and upcoming players 16 years old and below, meanwhile, take center stage on Sunday in the Youth singles at 11 a.m. while the P42,000 Classified three-man team event will follow at 12 noon.

Tournament director Errol Magtubo requests darters to register one or two hours before the competition.

Meanwhile, the election for DCP directors for 2014 will be held during the three-day dartfest at 4 p.m. daily.  Canvassing of votes will be held immediately after the close of election on May 11.
