Le Tour champ ready for Asiad

Abac Cordero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Mark Galedo, the newly-crowned Le Tour de Filipinas champion, can’t wait to prove himself in the 17th Asian Games in Incheon in September.

The 28-year-old cyclist from Mandaluyong told yesterday’s PSA Forum at Shakey’s Malate that he’s just waiting for the confirmation of the Asiad stint.

“I have no final information yet but after I won the gold medal in the 2013 SEA Games that I have qualified for the Asian Games,” said Galedo.

His victory in last week’s Le Tour only cemented his inclusion to the national team.

Philippine Sports Commission chairman Richie Garcia said yesterday that Galedo’s victory in the short but grueling Le Touur bikefest earned him a ticket to Incheon.

It’s now time for Galedo, also racing for the 7-Eleven Road Bike team, to prove himself in the Asian Games.

“It will be more challenging for me,” he said.

“Now, I need to prove that I deserve to be in the Asian Games. I will have to prove that I’m the best cyclist in our country,” said Galedo, who came to the forum alone.

“Kailangan ko patunayan yan,” he also said.

In Incheon, Galedo might compete in the individual time trial and road race events, where he won the gold and the bronze in the Myanmar SEA Games.

Expected to join Galedo in the lineup are George Oconer and Ronald Oranza.
