Teener Tomita nails 2nd ace in 8 months
MANILA, Philippines - Tomita Arejola, a multi-titled campaigner in the Junior Golf League, recently scored the second hole-in-one of her young career, doing it just eight months after shooting her first at the Capitol Golf Club in Quezon City.
The 13-year-old Tomi, a ninth grader at Immaculate Conception Academy, scored her second hole in one last month on the 106-yard 14th of Capitol using a Mizuno 9-iron and a Srixon ball.
Coached by former Asian Games gold medallist and junior legend Ramon Brobio, Arejola has scored several victories in the TJGL circuit, the last coming in Class B last March 16 when she scored that hole in one.
“Tomi has got a lot of potential,†Brobio said. “My role is to be able to help her achieve her goals. I am very excited and thrilled to be working with her.â€
In just her third year playing the sport, Arejola is training her sights on qualifying for the Callaway Junior World Championships next year, spending hours training and playing at her home club, the Camp Aguinaldo layout.
“That’s my next goal, to represent the Philippines in the Junior World,†Arejola said.
She actually tried to qualify earlier this month at The Country Club, but after having just turned 13, she was a rookie in her group, Class B.
Arejola first made a hole-in-one last June 23, when she opened up a round at Capitol with an ace, using a Mizuno 6-iron and a Wilson Staff ball from 140 yards.
She plans on campaigning even more this year and make golf a career, as she and her family have, as early as now, been looking at colleges and universities in the United States where she can get a good education and become a better player.
“It was fun playing against the best junior golfers in the country in the qualifying (event at TCC),†Arejola said. “Unfortunately, I came up short, but having seen them all, I know that I have to really improve and practice even harder.â€
