MANILA, Philippines – As expected, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is an overwhelming favorite to defeat Marcos Maidana when they clash on May 3 (May 4 Manila time) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The online sports betting website Bovada (www.Bovada.lv) listed Mayweather as an 11-1 favorite. This means that to win $100, a bettor must put up a whopping $1,100.
Maidana, on the other hand, is a huge underdog at 13-2, meaning a wager of $200 will give the winner a cool $1,500.
The odds come as no surprise since Mayweather, arguably the best boxer in the planet, has dominated in his last two fights – against Robert Guerrero and Saul Alvarez – and remains undefeated in 45 fights (26 knockouts).
Maidana, an Argentine banger, has a record of 35-3, with 31 knockouts.
The fight will be a title unification bout, with Mayweather putting his WBC welterweight crown on the line and Maidana his WBA welterweight diadem.
