Roach happy but says Pacman ‘sloppy’
LAS VEGAS – Freddie Roach described Manny Pacquiao’s performance against Timothy Bradley Saturday night as “a little sloppy.â€
Yet it was enough for Pacquiao to score a unanimous decision and retake the WBO welterweight crown the American took away from him in 2012.
That was enough to satisfy the celebrated trainer.
“Manny was a little sloppy tonight but I was happy with his performance,†said Roach.
Still, Pacquiao proved faster and stronger against Bradley who went for the knockout each time he got close and had the opportunity.
But Bradley never hit the homerun in 12 rounds inside the ring.
“I still thought Manny did pretty well,†said Roach.
Numbers would back up the statement because based on the official punch stats Pacquiao landed more and obviously the better punches.
When they first met in 2012, Pacquiao landed 190 of 493 power punches while Bradley connected only 109 times out of 390 and was awarded the victory.
Bradley threw more jabs but had wasn’t as lucky, going 32 of 287. Pacquiao unleashed 219 jabs and 50 of them found the target.
“He wanted to hit the homerun but wasn’t successful at that,†said Roach of Bradley.
