Lopez, Rivera rule Head junior tennis

MANILA, Philippines - Christian Fel Lopez and Shaira Hope Rivera dominated the first leg of 16th Head 2014 junior satellite circuit national tennis annual age-group tournament at the Toril Tennis Courts in Davao City recently.

Lopez thwarted Davao’s Jaffary Cariga in the 16-under, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, while Rivera took the girls’ 18 and 16-under singles by beating Dianne Caballero, 6-3, 6-2, and Jed Vallie Aquino, 6-1, 6-4, respectively.

“It’s very exhausting but it feels great to emerge on top,” said Lopez of Island Garden City of Samal. “I’m hoping to sustain my efforts in the next leg in GenSan.” 

Joel Cabusas halted John Jeric Accion, 7-5 6-3, in the boys’ 18-under  in the event supported by Chris Sports, Head Graphene, Toalson and official ball Head, and sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association.

Janus Ringia disposed of Mark Alfred Directo, 6-3, 6-2, in the 14-under title, while Paterica Velez whipped Dana Abad, 6-3, 6-0, to pocket the girls’ 14-U crown. 

Directo bounced back in the boys’ 12-under singles finals by beating Jorez Pantuhan, 6-0, 6-1, while Jessica Mae Carcueva walloped April Minnete Bintillo, 7-5, 6-2, in the girls’ 12-under.
