Talk n Text Tiger Scribes rule PGBL Willie Caballes Cup

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The Talk n Text Tropang Tiger Scribes are the new champions of the PGBL Willie Caballes Cup.

The Tropang Tiger Scribes completed their title run by dethroning last season’s champion Charlie’s Dymons, 52-39, at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

A strong 14-man roster showed up for the Tropang Tiger Scribes, including veteran players Tito Talao of Tempo and Nelson Beltran of The STAR. The team employed an airtight defense, holding their rivals to only three points in the second period and 10 in the first half – a finals record.

Diego Dela Paz of Business Mirror and Cedelf Tupas of the Philippine Daily Inquirer led the way for the Tropang Tiger Scribes, who are being handled by InterAksyon’s Rey Joble and managed by Virgil Villavicencio, the media relations head of the MVP group in the PBA.

Dela Paz finished with 14 points and 18 rebounds while also running away with the most prestigious individual awards – the tournament Most Valuable Player honors and the Finals MVP.

Tupas, the league’s scoring champion, also had 14 markers in the finals event held in honor of the late sports scribe Willie Caballes of the Manila Bulletin.

The other members of the Talk N Text Tropang Tiger Scribes are Chiqui Reyes of Sports 5/Fox Sports, Dodo Catacutan, Karlo Sacamos and Gerry Ramos of spin.ph, Fidel Mangonon of the PBA stats/Pilipino Star Ngayon, Alder Almo of Sports 5/philstar.com, Albert Andaya of Journal, Elech Dawa of Remate, Dexter Araquel of Sports 5 and draft pick JC Trinidad.
