Pacquiao to take home $20M vs Bradley

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao will be $20 million (about Php890 million) richer as soon as his rematch with Timothy Bradley this Sunday is over.

Pacquiao’s guaranteed pay, however, is lower than what he got for his first fight with Bradley two years ago.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission on Thursday released the official purses for both Pacquiao and Bradley, which, according to ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael, is at $6 million each.

But Rafael noted that Pacquiao is guaranteed to receive $20 million, the balance of which will be paid in the weeks after he collects the $6 million salary he is owed as specified in the fight contract.

The Filipino icon was guaranteed $26 million in the first fight. He will still earn more than Bradley despite being the challenger to the latter’s WBO welterweight title.

Bradley, for his part, will be earning more in the rematch than he did in his first encounter with Pacquiao, where he pocketed $5 million. It will be the American’s highest purse in his career.

Top Rank chief Bob Arum said Pacquiao and Bradley will also receive a portion of the pay-per-view revenue. A total of 890,000 homes bought Pacquiao-Bradley 1 in June 2012, which translated to over $50 million in sales.

Arum added that he expects the rematch to exceed $1 million PPV buys.
