MANILA, Philippines - New faces emerged as winners in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions of the fifth leg of the 2014 Cebuana Lhuillier National age group tennis championship series hosted by the BF Resort Tennis Club in Las Piñas recently.
Local bet Adrian Parangan rallied to beat Jeremiah Macias, 2-6, 6-4, 10-3, and cop the boys’ 18-and-under crown while Bacoor lass Cristy Sanoza held off Rica Mae Ombe, 6-2, 3-6, 10-7, to pocket the girls title in the event backed by Dunlop Sport.
Another local player Carl Rodriguez took the boys’ 16-and-U plum with a 6-2, 6-3 rompo over Macias while Marianne Ferry from Dasmariñas, Cavite defeated Li-Jian Thean of Manila, 6-2, 6-3, to bag the girls diadem.
EJ Geluz from Cavite won the boys’ 14-and-U crown with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Santino Vistan, while Makati’s Jackie Tan Ho snared the women’s plum with a 6-0, 6-1 rout of Lourdes Pe of Manila.
Jose Angelo Aparte held off Jennard Gonales, 7-5, 6-4, while Gia Saganday from Mountain Province beat Mariano Po, 7-5, 6-2, in the 14-and-under finals. Reane Nuguit of the host BF Resort Tennis Club won the 10-unisex crown with a 6-0, 6-3 romp over Robin Weigold.
Present during the awards rites were Cebuana Lhuillier Area operations head Joselito Dimaano and BF Resort Tennis Club president Dr. Edgardo Fernandez.
