MANILA, Philippines - Centro Escolar University blasted newcomer Fatima, 73-31, to sweep the first round of the third Pilipinas Chinese Amateur Basketball League Dickies Women’s Cup elimination at the CEU Lumera Tower gym on Legarda over the weekend.
The CEU belles bucked a slow start with a big run in the third period, outscoring their rivals, 25-11, to win pulling way and complete a five-game sweep of the first round.
Demi Lou Villanueva led CEU with 15 points while three others also logged in double figures to underscore the team’s well-balanced attack in the event presented by Dickies.
Villanueva also had three assists and three boards to claim her first Dickies Player of the Game award in the tournament backed by Smart Telecom, Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, Power House, CW Home Depot, Dickies Underwear and Hapee Toothpaste.
The two other games of the day ended in routs with UAAP champion La Salle scoring a 73-41 romp over Far Eastern U and University of Santo Tomas topping College of St. Benilde, 91-55.
With Lorie Rivera and Tin Siapoc at the helm, the Tigresses raced to a 22-12 advantage at the end of the first quarter en route to victory and a 4-1 mark.
Four La Salle players finished in double digits with former national youth member Trishia Piatos leading the way with 19 markers, three steals and two boards as the Lady Archers improved to 3-2.
