Lady Tams gun for No. 2 vs Tigresses

2 p.m. – SWU vs Ateneo

4 p.m. – UST vs FEU

MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern U and Ateneo hope to come out strong coming off a long break as they try to step up their respective quarterfinal bids against separate rivals in the Shakey’s V-League Season 11 First Conference at The Arena in San Juan today.

The Lady Tams kicked off their campaign with a 3-1 romp over many-time NCAA titlists the San Sebastian Lady Stags but they haven’t seen action since March 25, making them a little bit rusty when they face the UST Tigresses in the 4 p.m. main game.

The España-based squad, meanwhile, dropped a heart-breaking five-setter to the fancied National Bulldogs last March 30 but the winningest team in the league sponsored by Shakey’s with six championships are out for a big bounce-back, guaranteeing another slambang action among the league’s leading title contenders.

A victory by FEU will keep the Lady Tams along with the Lady Bulldogs at the helm of Group B while a UST win will force a three-way tie for second with San Sebastian.

Ateneo, which opened its campaign with a 3-1 victory over Adamson last March 23, is also raring to get back into the thick of things following its five-set setback to the league-leading Arellano U last March 30 with the reigning UAAP champions, led by the power-hitting Alyssa Valdez, Amy Ahomiro and Michelle Morente, tipped to get past a struggling Southwestern U side in the 2 p.m. opener.

The Lady Cobras nipped newcomer the St. Louis University tossers in five sets last March 25 but the Cebu champions went on a tailspin, losing their next three, including a shutout to the Adamson Lady Falcons last Thursday.
