Cebuana age group tennis opens in Las Piñas, Iligan City

MANILA, Philippines - The 2014 Cebuana Lhuillier National Age Group Tennis Championships, now on its eighth year, resumes this weekend with back to back legs in Las Pinas in Metro Manila and Iligan City in Lanao del Norte in Northern Mindanao.

Both sanctioned as Group 3 tournaments by the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) and backed by Dunlop Sport, both events are expected to draw young tennis players looking for competitive tournaments and for provincial talents, it is a chance to be discovered and be given the opportunity to play in the PCA Open for the top performers in the series.

“ It is Cebuana Lhuillier’s commitment to continue this talent identification program that in the past has already resulted in young tennis players from the provinces getting discovered and eventually getting educational scholarships in Metro Manila colleges and universities, “ said Cebuana Lhuillier president/CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier who is also the current Philta chairman and Philippine Davis Cup team manager.

The series has expanded this year adding new legs in Luzon with the Las Piñas leg, set from March 29 to April 2 at the BF Resort Tennis Club being the fifth leg in the series. Deadline for registration for this leg is on March 27, contact person is Rene Selmar at 0921 2714061.

For the sixth leg in Iligan City scheduled right after the Las Piñas tournament, it will be held from March 31 to April 3 with the San Miguel Tennis Club hosting the event, deadline for registration is on March 30 and interested parties can call series organizer and ITF referee Mario Craiz at 0920 9468280.

This year’s series will last until December and will have a total of 28 legs.
