MANILA, Philippines - Cebuana Lhuillier held off River Rats All Stars to retain the Super division crown but last year’s Club division champion Entom Tigers bowed to On Tap Kings from Taiwan in the Pangaea Cup 21 Slo-pitch Softball tournament at the Clark parade grounds inside the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga recently.
Cebuana Lhuillier swept their four games in the qualifying round, then edged the River Rats All Stars from Singapore, 6-5, in the finals to keep the Super division crown.
The River Rats finished second in the elims with a 3-1 mark then forced a title duel with the Cebuana clouters after the step-ladder quarterfinals and semifinals.
Meanwhile, the Korean Guzzlers topped the Group B elims with the Shanghai Blackout side placing second. But elims third placer On Tap Kings from Taiwan and Entom Tigers made it to the finals with the Taiwanese team edging the defending champions Entom side, 8-7.
The other teams that saw action in the Super Division category of the event, sponsored by San Miguel Corp., the Department of Tourism, and Tequila Reef and organized by Pureplay Sports & Events, were the Shanghai Stepdads, Hongkong Turkeys, and the Clark Aces while the Meralco Sluggers and the Tokyo Cocobay team rounded up the field in Group B.
