Phl judo team cops medals in HK meet

MANILA, Philippines - Monica Pineda bagged the silver while Helen Dawa took the bronze in their respective categories as the Philippines held its own against a crack international field in the Hong Kong International judo tournament at the Shek Kip Mei Park Sports Center in Sham Shui Po, Kowloon recently.

Pineda finished second in the under-45kg while Dawa placed third in under-48kg division of the event that drew participants from Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, New Zealand, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, Hong Kong and the Philippines.

The 11-member Phl delegation, backed by PLDT-Hong Kong Ltd., was headed by team manager Shalimar Tamano and included seven national judokas and three young athletes from La Salle Greenhills.
