Big events slated for Milo 50th year

MANILA, Philippines - This year will be a year like no other for Milo, which has drawn up a heavy list of activities that only strengthens its commitment to further develop sports in the country.

“We are very excited this year because it’s Milo’s 50th year celebration,” said Milo Sports executive Robbie de Vera in Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum at Shakey’s Malate.

As in the past years, Milo will push hard with the Milo Marathon, Milo Little Olympics, Milo BEST Center, and the numerous Milo summer sports clinics.

“It’s an entire year of highlights,” said De Vera.

As their prize for ruling the 2013 Milo Marathon, men’s and women’s champions Eduardo Buenavista and Mary Joy Tabal will vie in the coveted Paris Marathon next month.

“They’re been training hard for the past three weeks now,” said De Vera.

The Milo executive said they have just launched the Milo FIBA “Fly to Spain” promo for loyal Milo drinkers.

They will offer a trip for two to the FIBA World Championships in Spain from Aug. 30 to Sept. 14 for a chance to watch Gilas Pilipinas in action.

“It’s our form of support to the SBP (Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas) and our national team,” added De Vera, noting that three members of Gilas Pilipinas – LA Tenorio, Larry Fonacier, and Jeff Chan – are products of the Milo BEST (Basketball Efficiency and Scientific Training) Center.

John Montalvan, national Milo events coordinator, said the summer clinics will cover sports like badminton, basketball, bowling, gymnastics, volleyball, karatedo, ice-skating, tennis, taekwondo, table tennis, chess, football, and swimming.

“Milo continues to build champions and its commitment to grassroots development,” said Montalvan.
