UE runner reigns in Run United 21K

University of the East varsity trackster Richard Salaño tops the half-marathon (Enervon Activ 21K) category of Run United 1 2014.

MANILA, Philippines - Richard Salaño of University of the East and veteran triathlon campaigner Monica Torres dominated their respective divisions to lead the winners in the first leg of the Run United Series at the Mall of Asia grounds in Pasay yesterday.

Salaño, a 22-year old student-athlete, turned in one hour, 16 minutes, 52 seconds to rule the men’s 21-km race, beating Benjamin Raña Jr. and Andy Pope, while Torres clocked 1:28:20 to humble Irine Kipchumba and Kristy Abello in the women’s side of the event presented by Unilab Active Health (ULAH) and organized by RunRio.

Over 12,000 runners took part in the first of the three-leg Run United Series working on a theme Exceed Yourself: Citius, Altius, Fortius, (faster, higher, and stronger), which is all about inspiring race participants to set new personal records (citius), progress to long distance categories (altius) or finish strong (fortius).

“Our races have always been about people exceeding themselves and we will continue to support them as they progress in their field, whether it is running, biking or triathlon,” said ULAH vice president for operations Alex Panlilio.
