MANILA, Philippines - Asian Energysystems Corp. and Pugo Adventure closed out with big rounds to dominate their respective divisions in the 26th Philippine Corporate Cup at Camp John Hay Golf Club in Baguio City yesterday.
Jikjik Abdon, set to join the pro ranks next week, fired a two-under 69 worth 56 points under the Molave scoring system to lead Asian Energysystems’ final day score of 142 for a 291 and a 13-point romp over last year’s winner Team Forest Lodge.
Nico Sevilla and Ryan Abdon carded 48 points each to backstop Abdon while Jun Fernandez had a 39 and didn’t count in the four-to-play, three-to-count format event co-presented by Ayala Land Premiere and Megafiber.
Team Forest Lodge drew 51 points from Jayson Yu but Thirdy Escano and Shean Bedi could only produce 47 and 45 points, respectively, as they wound up with a 278 after a 143.
With Goody Ignacio firing 55 points and Fred Puckett and Ed Montenegro adding 51 and 50 points, respectively, Pugo Adventure assembled a 156 for a 314 and won by 14 points over fancied Megafiber, which finished with a 300 after a 154.
Mari Hechanova, playing out of the Canlubang seniors team in the PAL Interclub, led Megafiber with 55 while Albert MG Garcia scored a 51 and Rene Unson added a 48. Ben Jacinto’s 45 failed to count.
Team Nueva Ecija finished third with a 287 after a 136 with former Gov. Tomas Joson III scoring 49 points and Joel San Vicente and Arnold Duay adding 44 and 43, respectively.
Camp John Hay pooled a 296 to capture the Division II crown over Friday Business Club 1 (276) and Rural Bankers 1 (270) while KT Glass topped Division II with a 266, beating AMSI-Shakey’s Calamba (261) and Starflex Wires & Cables 1 (255).
Nassau Inc. assembled a 245 to beat Baguio Centermall 1 and JW Promotions, which both had 225s, for the Division IV crown while Isabela Golf Club scored a 233 to clinch Division V title against sister teams ABGC 1 (209) and ABGC 2 (208).
