Tri United fires off tomorrow
MANILA, Philippines - An all-new season of triathlon action begins as Bike King and Unilab Active Health (ULAH) launch the Tri United 1 tomorrow at Dungaree Beach in the Subic Bay Freeport.
Competition among the elite is expected to be intense with 2013 Tri United series champion Benjamin Rana (ULAH) taking on Nikko Huelgas of the national team, 2013 Tri United 4 winner Mark Anthony Hosana (ULAH), and John Chicano for the Standard Distance (1.5k swim-40k bike-10k run) Elite Male title. Up for grabs is the top purse of P10,000.
2013 Tri United 2 champion Anna Stroh, on the other hand, is set to face off with ex-Olympian Radka Vodickova of the Czech Republic, 2013 Tri United 4 champion Ma. Claire Adorna (ULAH), Monica Torres, Kim Mangrobang (ULAH), and 2013 Tri United 3 champion Ani De Leon-Brown (ULAH) in the distaff side of the event sponsored by ULAH, Aboitiz, Subic Holiday Villas, AboitizPower, Orbea, Shimano, Crystal Clear, Maxxis, Pocari Sweat, TIMEX, Saucony and the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) and the Department of Tourism.
Meanwhile, the Teens Sprint Distance category (age 16-17) has attracted eight competitors, led by Vicky Deldio, Jimmuel Patilan and Samuel Ranque while nine sports clubs will vie for top honors in the team competition.
All the top three finishers in the male-female categories and team winners will receive medals and gift packs. The top three in team competition receive trophies, medals and gift packs.
For the Elite category, P40,000 in cash prizes is at stake. For all participants, finisher’s medals and post-race meals will be given. The awarding ceremony is set at 10:30 a.m. at Dungaree Beach.
New to the Tri United series is a set of innovations that participants and spectators can watch out for.
With 700 participants representing varied places and sports clubs from around the nation registered, the Tri United series continues to be one of the most credible triathlon circuits/series to date.
Other Tri United events are set July 6 (Tri United 2) at San Juan, Batangas, Oct. 26 (Tri United 3) at Subic Bay and November (Tri United 4).
