MANILA, Philippines - Action in the seventh Prima Pasta Badminton Championship begins today with fancied Toby Gadi and Joper Escueta heading the elite cast at the Powersmash Badminton Court in Pasong Tamo, Makati City.
Gelita Castilo, Ronel Estanislao, Peter Gabriel Magnaye, Paul Jefferson Vivas and Marco Bermejo are also tipped to vie for top honors in the Open division of the annual tournament sponsored by Smart Communications through the MVP Sports Foundation.
“We have trained hard for this since we are expecting a huge competitive field,†said Escueta. “This is good for the tournament and good for the sport.â€
The event, organized by Team Prima Badminton chairman Alexander Lim, serves as part of the Philippine National Ranking System.
Other events on tap are the Open men’s doubles and mixed doubles from Levels A to G, while the Open Class and Levels B to F will be disputed in the women’s doubles.
The event is backed by Pacific Boysen Paints Phils. Corps, Morning Star Milling Corp.., Mabz Builders, ILO Construction, Monolith Construction, Pioneer Life, Promax International, RSL Badminton Rackets and RFM Corp.
Also on tap are the boys’ and girls’ singles events for Under-19, 17, 15 and 13 categories, while boys and girls doubles will be played in the Under-19, 17 and Under 15 divisions.
