DLSU, FEU rule UAAP chess tiff
MANILA, Philippines - La Salle completed a four-peat in women’s division while Far Eastern University regained the men’s crown in the UAAP Season 76 chess tournament at De La Salle’s Enrique Razon Sports Center Sunday.
The Lady Archers actually sealed the title in the 13th round last Saturday with a 4-0 rout of the Ateneo side and rounded out the season on the next day with a 2.5-1.5 win over the University of the Philippines squad to finish with 44 points.
De La Salle’s Jan Jodilyn Fronda copped her third MVP award while teammate Bernadette Galas took the Rookie of the Year honors.
The Lady Maroons finished in second place with 38 points.
In men’s play, the Tamaraws, behind season MVP Kevin Mirano, regained the crown with 39.5 points. It was their seventh title in the last eight seasons for a league-best 14 championships. The Morayta-based squad overcame a tough challenge from Adamson University, which finished second with 33.5 points.
National U’s Austin Literatus is the top rookie in the men’s division.
