Millet repulses Perez in national dragfest

MANILA, Philippines - Arvin Millet of TEMZ held off former champion Paul Henderson Perez to top the kickoff leg of the 2014 Petronas Philippine Drag Racing Championship Southern Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit in Rosario, Batangas recently.

Millet, the 20-year-old defending Expert champion from Tarlac, outdueled Perez in a thrilling finish to post his second straight win and gain the solo overall lead in the Expert division of the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines.

It was a narrow escape for Millet, who clocked 13.05 seconds in the final run or just 0.921 seconds ahead of Perez who timed 13.921.

Henry Dizon settled for third place in the event sponsored by Petronas, M &H Tires and media partner Racing Beat at Wave 89.1.

Millet, meanwhile, guns for his third consecutive victory as drag racing action resumes today with the second leg of the Petronas Philippine Drag Racing Championship Northern Series at Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.

Also on tap is the first ever Clark International Motorshow (CIMS), which  ends tomorrow at the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) Parade Grounds.

In other events, veteran Sherwin Jay Esguerra of SE Racing ruled the Sportsman division, completing his quarter-mile run in 14.108. He pulled away midway through the race en route to beating Zester Hernandez, who ended up with a time of 14.314 seconds.

Regie Comia took third place after prevailing in the double breakout encounter with fourth placer Jayson Millet while Jeremie Cabreros wound up fifth.

Malvin Alcantara won the Hotstreet crown, beating Roy Evangelista and Gerwin Asuncion.
