Superal peerless, seals 13-stroke KL Am romp

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Princess Superal put on a fiery windup reminiscent of her Baguio feat last year, routing the field with a solid four-under 68 for a whopping 13-shot romp in the Kuala Lumpur Amateur Open 2014 at the Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam Malaysia in Bukit Kiara late Thursday.

Superal, whose pair of 71s netted her a three-stroke lead after two rounds, birdied three of the first five holes in impressive fashion then rolled in another eight-footer on the ninth and pulled away with a four-under card at the turn.

She, however, slowed down at the back, flubbing birdie putts from close range on Nos. 12, 13 and 15 but salvaged pars on Nos. 10, 14 and 18 to preserve her bogey-less stint.

With a 210 total, the top ICTSI-backed bet beat Koh Sock Hwee by 13 as the Singapore ace matched par 72 for a 223 for joint second with a fading veteran Malaysian campaigner Nur Durriyah Damian, who fumbled with a 78.

“I had no bogey just like in ICTSI LPGT in Baguio last year. I am so happy to finish a tournament this way,” said the 17-year-old Superal, who humbled the Filipina pros in dominating the final leg of the inaugural ICTSI Ladies Philippien Golf Tour last October where she went without a bogey in the last 36 holes and won by eight.

“She was simply flawless. But what made it doubly impressive was her ability to come up with big shots to complete her recoveries. She’s so focused,” said Team ICTSI coach Bong Lopez of the reigning SEA Games gold medalist.
