Donaire seals Macau fight vs S. African

Dino Maragay - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Nonito Donaire Jr. will get a crack at another world title after a fight with WBA/IBO featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka of South Africa has been finalized, a boxing website reported Thursday.

In a report by Philboxing.com, Sampson Lewkowicz, who represents Vetyeka’s promoter Dragon Fire Promotions, confirmed that the bout is a go for May 31 at the CotaiArena of the Venetian Resort in Macau.

“Everything is done,” Lewkowicz told Philboxing.com’s Dong Secuya in Macau, where the promoter finalized the fight with Donaire’spromoter Top Rank Inc.

Vetyeka, who holds a record of 26-2, with 16 knockouts, annexed the IBO and WBA featherweight crowns after forcing longtime champion Chris John of Indonesia to quit on his stool after the sixth round of their clash last December.

Lewkowicz added that both camps are satisfied with the deal.

“Everyone’s happy and we get all what we wanted,” he said.

Donaire hasn’t fought since knocking out Vic Darchinyan in the ninth round of their fight last November. A win over Vetyeka in May will net Donaire a fifth world title in as many weight classes.

The Filipino-American boxer has held championships at flyweight, super flyweight, bantamweight and super bantamweight.
