Xavier trounces Marist for U-10, U-9 Got Skills crowns

MANILA, Philippines – The Xavier School Golden Stallions beat the Marist School Golden Bears on two fronts last Sunday Feb. 16 to clinch the 10-under and 9-under boys crowns  of the 1st Got Skills Age Group Basketball Showdown at the Xavier School Sports Complex in San Juan.

Kenneth Wong Chu King took the Most Valuable Player honors after he scored 14 points and had seven rebounds for the Golden Stallions as they fought off the Golden Bears, 38-31, for the 10-under honors.

Patrick Napenas, who had 16 points and eight rebounds, was the finals MVP in Xavier’s 48-32 stopping of Marist in the battle for the 9-under championship of this cagefest is supported by Chris Sports, SKLZ Philippines, Fitness and Athletics Company, No Curfew Watch Store, Wize and Ope Watch, and Goody Gulp Milk Drink.

In the battle for third place of the 10-under section, Don Bosco Technical Institute won over Colegio San Agustin, 35-30, with Carlos Manayon shooting 12 points.

La Salle-Zobel settled for third place following a 46-17 edging of CSA, and with Thomas Jose Lu making nine points and 10 boards.

Emerging as members of the Mythical 5 in the 10-under division are Lance Oiga (Marist), Gabi Severino Tiongco (Xavier), Heinrich Quintong (CSA) and Rely Quintong, while Jacob Militar was hailed as No Curfew, Wize and Ope Watch League MVP.

The members of the Mythical five for the 9-under side are Joshua Edrozo (Marist), John Louie Salinas (Marist), Thomas Lu (Xavier) and Nathaniel Duncan Siao(Xavier).

Meanwhile, the National University Bullpups and the Chiang Kai Shek College Dragons won over separate foes to reach the 13-under finals.

Rhayyan Amsali had 23 points for NU as they prevailed over La Salle-Greenhills-PAYA, 57-53, while Richmond King struck with 15 points in leading CKSC to a 55-53 win over La Salle-Zobel.

In the 12-under semis, Dan Angelo de Guzman hit 15 points for Marist as they walloped San Beda-Alabang, while Diego Allan Dy-Ty poured in 21 points for Xavier in their 49-31 conquest of La Salle-Zobel.

In the 11-under semis, San Beda-Taytay fought off San Beda-Alabang, 42-38, and got 15 points and 14 rebounds from Nathan Tan, while Xavier drew 11 points from Miguel Luis Tan as they won over Marist, 40-35.
