Phl to launch Asian V8 racing launch up
MANILA, Philippines - Philippine motorsports goes back to the main stage of the motoring world with the launching of the Asian V8 Championship Feb. 27, starting at 6 p.m., at the Resorts World Manila Atrium.
Tom Pastor, founder of the Philippine Formula Autosport Foundation (PFAFI), said guests would include internationally acclaimed drivers from all over the Asian region, VIP’s and local Philippine celebrities that like to dabble in racing, including the pride of the Philippines in Motor sports – Enzo Pastor.
Last year Enzo Pastor secured honor and recognition for the Philippines at the Nascar Whelen Euro Series. The series took the Filipino driver to iconic tracks in Europe including stops in France, England, Italy and the prestigious Lemans Race track.
At the end of this grueling 12-race series, Enzo finished the championship in the Magic 6. He became the first Filipino and Asian to be awarded in the Nascar Hall of Fame, at the home of Nascar in Charlotte, North Carolina.
To sustain the growth of local motor sports, the PFAFI acquired eight late model Nascar race cars, which will be used in the Asian V8 Championship in both the Clark International Speedway and the Batangas Racing Circuit.
This is another first for Philippine motor sports, to have such an iconic and highly publicized race car series available for competition, testing and practicing in our own backyard.
The thrust of the PFAFI is to develop the Philippines as a hub for the late model Nascar racing in Asia. This is in line with its vision to make local drivers competitve in international racing events in Europe and America.
Starting March 1 the Asian V8 Championship will begin its official testing, where celebrities here and abroad and VIP’s will be invited to the BRC in Rosario, Batangas to see the action of these 450HP late model Nascars.
The first of three, two- day festivals of motor sports, will be held April 5-6 at the Clark International Speedway (CIS).
Festivities planned for these days include car shows, car club EB’s, DJ performances on sight and support races by Circuit Showdown, a grassroots motor sports event which holds both time trial and wheel to wheel racing.
