UP, FEU stage showdown for UAAP football crown

MANILA, Philippines - University of the Philippines  and Far Eastern University came out on top of their respective Final Four assignments yesterday to set a championship showdown for the UAAP Season 76 men’s football crown at the FEU-Diliman pitch.

Relying on its superb attacks, UP eliminated University of Santo Tomas, 5-1, to clinch its fourth-straight championship appearance, while FEU relied on Dexter Chio to edge De La Salle, 2-1.

UP, which actually made it to the championship round in five of the last six years, and FEU begin their best-of-three title series on Thursday.

Meanwhile, defending champion Ateneo and elimination-round topnotcher La Salle begin their best-of-three baseball titular showdown at 12 noon today at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium. The Blue Eagles and Green Archers are facing each other on the championship pitch for the first time in the league.

The Green Archers, 9-1 this season, won Seasons 58, 62 and 65 and are poised to break an 11-year title drought.

However, the Blue Eagles (7-3) are hot on their bid to repeat as champions and fortify their emerging dynasty.

De La Salle beat Ateneo, 13-6, in the first round last January but the Blue Eagles won the second time they met, 8-0.
