Beckham in town to celebrate V-Day with Yolanda survivors

MANILA, Philippines -- Football icon David Beckham is spending the Valentines Day not with his wife but with the people of Tacloban.

The former English captain and LA Galaxy star arrived in the country on Thursday to grace Unicef's relief efforts for the victims of super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in Tacloban, Leyte.

Earlier this month during a press conference in Miami, Florida, Beckham announced his planned visit to the country.

"I will be in the Philippines with Unicef to visit different sites. I won't be with her but we will make sure we celebrate it before or after," Bekcham told MSTAR News last week referring to his Valentine celebration with his wife Victoria, a former Spice Girl.

As a couple, the Beckhams have already donated 20 boxes of their clothes late last year to British Red Cross which were auctioned for the benefit of Yolanda survivors.

Beckham is visiting the country for the second time since playing with the Galaxy, his former team in the US MLS, in a 2-nil win against the Philippine Azkals in a 2011 exhibition match at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Beckham arrived with seven others from the Unicef around 11am at Mactan International Airport in Cebu via Hong Kong and shortly departed for Tacloban.

The football legend has been Unicef's Ambassador since 2005.
