Seaoil All-Star Game features 30 HS stars
MANILA, Philippines - Thirty of the best high school players in the country will gather in a basketball showcase of youth and talent when the 2014 Seaoil NBTC HS All-Star Game is held March 9 at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig.
Presented by Seaoil and backed by the MVP Sports Foundation, Meralco, Smart, NLEX, Maynilad, Philex and Molten, the HS All-Star Game will cap the 2014 Seaoil NBTC League National High School finals, the official grassroots program of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas set March 6-9.
Last year, the Letran Squires’ Rey Nambatac was named MVP after leading All-Star Light team to a 92-78 victory over the All-Star Dark squad, also at the Ynares gym.
Nambatac scored 23 points and finished with six rebounds, six assists and five steals, presiding over a second half comeback.
San Beda’s Alex Inigo and National U’s Reggie Morido added 15 points each for the winning team in the third edition of the event patterned after the McDonald’s All-American tournament.
Two years ago, another All-Star White team, bannered by Mapua’s Ace Basas, beat All-Star Dark, 87-81.
Meanwhile, action continues in the provincial high school championships leading up to the National Finals.
Among those who have emerged from the local city championships are Perpetual Help System Dalta-Molino from Northeast Cavite, Christian Values School from Northwest Cavite, Rogationist College from South Cavite, De La Salle Lipa, Jacobo Gonzales National from Binan, Laguna, Jesus the Loving Shepherd from Naga, Sto. Domingo High from Legaspi, Sorsogon National, San Felipe National from Camarines del Norte, La Union National, University of Cordilleras from Baguio, Divine World Academy from Dagupan, Don Bosco Tarlac, Angeles University, Assumption U from San Fernando, Castillejos National from Zambales, Olongapo City National, La Salle Academy from Iligan, Agusan National from Butuan, Bethel Baptist Christian Academy from Bukidnon, University of San Carlos and Sacred Heart-Ateneo from Cebu, West Negros University from Bacolod, Assumption College Davao, and Southern City College in Zamboanga.
About to wrap up are ongoing competitions in North Cavite, Lucena, San Pedro in Laguna, Mandaue, Iloilo, and Cagayan de Oro.
