3 Phl fans to witness ‘gymkhana’ in Japan

Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Professional rally driver Ken Block will bring his act to Japan in July to treat fans of “gymkhana” with an action-filled serving of mind-blowing maneuvers on wheels.

Block, the first American to campaign in the World Rally Championship, will join top racers and star drivers of the top drift series D1 for the July 26-27 event as they perform reversals, 180 degree spins, 360 degree spins, parking boxes, figure 8s and other driving skills in obstacles-filled courses.

And three Pinoy fans – along with a guest each – will get front row seats to the action, accompanied by celebrity Ellen Adarna, courtesy of Monster Energy Drink.

“We will be giving three lucky fans a chance to meet Ken Block and check out his new ride in the Land of the Rising Sun. What’s more, the winning auto enthusiasts will be accompanied by Ellen Adarna,” said Jem Perez of Crystalite Distribution Corp. during yesterday’s press launch.

Gymkhana is a motorsport event similar to autocross but features complex courses filled with various obstacles that drivers must navigate through, racing against the clock in an attempt to finish with the fastest time.

To join the Ken Block’s Japan Experience, fans should pick up a Monster Energy Drink at any participating store nationwide and text “MONSTER<OR#/store location>” to 2600. The complete details of the mechanics can be found at www.monsterenergy.com.

As part of the Ken Block’s Japan Experience, Monster will be showcasing Ken’s Ford Fiesta ST car across the country.
