PSC to sack 2 Patafa coaches

Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Sports Commission has recommended the dropping from the rolls of two athletics coaches – Joseph Sy and Roselyn Hamero – for their “failure to perform their jobs.”

A memo from the PSC said the two “did not perform their jobs and even made some acts detrimental to sports” while stating that “they are not in the training venue.”

Although only the Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association (Patafa) can actually give their coaches the boot, a PSC official said the sports body can stop releasing allowances and other financial assistance to the said mentors.

The Patafa calls the decision “very wrong” and “ridiculous” and said it will dispute PSC’s action, expressing firm belief in Sy and Hamero.

“The Patafa recognizes and credits our hardworking local coaches for the six golds we brought home from the SEA Games, making us the winningest NSA. And our coaches and athletes did the feat with only a token of support from the PSC. So this is how the PSC takes care of our athletes and coaches?” said Patafa president Go Teng Kok.
