AVC executive to inspect local venues for Asian volley

MANILA, Philippines - The Asian Volleyball Confederation has placed the Asian Men’s Club Championship presented by PLDT Home Fibr slated April 8-16 here as among its most important activities for the year.

In fact, the AVC will be sending executive vice president Shanrit Wongprasert, also the chair of AVC Sports Events Council, to check on the Cuneta Astrodome and the Ynares Sports Complex, which will serve as venues for the meet.

Wongprasert is expected to arrive on Feb. 12 and will inspect the two venues, along with the other training sites for the club tournament being held in the country for the very first time. 

“We guarantee before the FIVB (International Volleyball Federation) and the AVC the country’s successful staging of Asian Men’s Club Championship,” said AMCC Organizing Committee chairman Philip Ella Juico.

Many-time club champion Iran is again expected to send its strongest team to the tournament which also features Bahrain, China, Chinese-Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mongolia, Oman, Papua New Guinea, Qatar, Thailand, Turkmenistan, UAE and Vietnam.

Along with Juico, Wongprasert will be welcomed by the Philippine Volleyball Federation officials, led by its president Karl Chan and sec-gen Otie Camangian, and the organizing SportsCore group of Ramon Suzara, also the chairman of AVC Development and Marketing Committee and member of the FIVB Development Commission.

“Mr. Wongprasert’s arrival will further strengthen the Philippines’ renewed relationship with the FIVB and the AVC,” said Suzara.

Juico and Suzara have invited Wei Jizhong, the honorary lifetime president of the FIVB and AVC, as the meet’s guest of honor and speaker.
