MANILA, Philippines - Super Bowl 48, the biggest sporting event in the United States, will be brought Live to Filipino viewers this Feb. 3 via TV5 starting at 7:30 a.m.
The ultimate game of the National Football League (NFL) will be held at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey with the Denver Broncos going against the Seattle Seahawks. This will be the first time that the game will be played outdoors in a cold-climate city.
The Seattle Seahawks emerged victorious in their NFC championship game against the San Francisco 48ers. Filipino-American Doug Baldwin, who traces his roots in Tacloban, Leyte, will be someone to watch out for. A wide receiver for the team, Baldwin carried the Filipino flag last Nov. to rally support for victims of super typhoon Yolanda. Sophomore quarterback Russell Wilson will be taking charge of the offensive attack. This will be the second appearance for the Seahawks which failed to win it in the 2005 season.
The Denver Broncos are the other contender in the title game after they beat the New England Patriots in the AFC championship game. The Broncos will be led by the quarterback Peyton Manning, who aims to earn his second Super Bowl ring. The Broncos last won the prestigious Vince Lombardi trophy in the 1998 season.
Super Bowl will also have the biggest names performing that evening, with Bruno Mars headlining the halftime show. The Filipino-American singer will be collaborating with the rock band Red Hot Chilli Peppers, which will be visiting the country soon. Bruno Mars was named Billboard’s 2013 Artist of the Year and his sophomore album has sold more than 2 million copies.
