LSGH, DPS enter q'finals in 1st Got Skills basketball showdown
MANILA, Philippines -- La Salle Greenhills-PRADA and Diliman Preparatory School crushed their foes to earn tickets to the quarterfinal final round of the 13-under boys action onWeek 7 of the 1st Got Skills Age Group Basketball Showdown over the weekend at the Xavier School Sports Complex in San Juan.
Paolo Antonio Calingin had 17 points and took the best player of the game honors as he led the Greenies to a 56-55 win over San Beda-Taytay, while Amcus Araza shot 13 points for DPS in their 43-33 demolition of Southeastern College.
The Greenies finished Group A with their second win in five games, and they joined Chiang Kai Shek College (4-1), National University (4-1) and La Salle-Zobel (3-2) to the round of 8 in their bracket.
DPS also entered the quarterfinals, joining LSGH-PAYA, (5-0), San Beda-Alabang (4-2) and Southeastern College (3-2) in their grouping.
Around 520 kids saw action on the seventh weekend of this cagefest, which is supported by Chris Sports, SKLZ Philippines, Fitness and Athletics Company, No Curfew Watch Store, Wize and Ope Watch, and Goody Gulp Milk Drink.
In the 12-under action, Marist School drew 17 points from Victor Angelo Papa as they hit 17 points and won over La Salle-Zobel, 60-45, and ended their elimination stint with a five-game sweep.
They made it to the quarterfinals with Xavier School (6-1), Colegio San Agustin (4-3), Colegio San Benildo, La Salle-Zobel, San Beda-Alabang and St. Francis-Sta. Ana.
In the 11-under side, Xavier School, with Miguel Roy Tan shooting 13 points, tripped CSA, 55-27, to finish with a 6-1 slate, while San Beda-Alabang (4-3) won over Marist School, 56-53.
The two entered the quarterfinals with San Beda-Taytay, Marist, School of St. Anthony, CSA, La Salle-Zobel and Don Bosco Technical Institute.
Xavier School (5-0) qualified in the 10-under along with Marist, CSA and DBTI, while Marist, Xavier, CSA and DBTI clinched slots in the 9-under.
