PCCr wards off AMA U in UCLAA

MANILA, Philippines - Host Philippine College of Criminology brought down upset-conscious AMA Computer University, 66-58, to clinch the first finals berth in the 2013-14 Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (UCLAA) basketball tournament at the San Andres gym in Malate, Manila.

Three mainstays combined for 42 points to power the Panthers to their ninth win in 10 matches, including eight in the elimination round.victory

No. 3 Colegio de San Lorenzo subdued No. 2 PATTS College of Aeronautics, 86-78, to forge a sudden death for the second finals berth.

The Boni Garcia-mentored Griffins used a strong third-quarter run to battle back from double-digit deficits in the first half to keep their hopes alive.

In the junior division, defending champion AMA edged PCCr, 71-68, to move within a win of retaining the title.
