Top drivers vie in Petronas drag racing
MANILA, Philippines - The country’s top drivers will see action this Saturday in the start of the 2014 Petronas Philippine Drag Racing Championship Southern Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit Drag Strip.
Close to 150 entries from Batangas, Laguna, Quezon and the Bicol region are expected to join the hunt for the titles at stake aside from the North-based competitors who participated in the Clark kickoff of this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Petronas, M &H Tires and media partner Racing Beat at Wave 89.1.
Defending champion Marc Manalo of RSL Motorsports will be gunning for a back-to-back crown as he leads the Southerners’ hopes to reassert their domination along with BRC pioneers Autokeeps, Just Racing, Sherwin Esguerra’s SE Racing, Jywell Comet, Team Batangas, Lowtoys, Ger&Friends and Montavita among others.
These drivers will dispute the titles in the Quick 8, Pro, Thunder, Expert, Sportsman, and Hotstreet classes.
Still, defending champion Jonathan Tiu of JCT-Blanche Racing remains the biggest thorn to their hopes of keeping their Southern domination, considering his BRC Drag Strip quarter-mile record of 9.903 seconds remains unshattered for years.
Spectators expect another exciting clash between Tiu and former champion Martin Manalo for the premiere Quick 8 and M&H Pro crowns where they will be joined by equally strong contenders Teofilo Edwin and Edison Cayco together with H3 Autoworks teammates Pepi Santos, John Kalaw, Bong Hilario, and Cayco, and the Vannitec squad of Vanni Garcia, When When and Why Why Dagondon,
Young sensation Arvin Jay Millet of TEMZ will join the fray in the premiere Pro class as he also tries to defend his Expert class title.
