MANILA, Philippines - Angelo Que failed to recover from a double-bogey mishap on No. 13 and hobbled with a three-over 75 to tumble down from joint third to a share of 16th halfway through the rich King’s Cup Golf Hua Hin at the Black Mountain Golf Club in Hua Hin, Thailand yesterday.
Oozing with confidence after opening with a fiery 66 late Thursday, Que instead sputtered in an early tee-off at the back, dropping two strokes on the par-5 13th and making a bogey on No. 15.
He missed a couple of birdie putts inside eight feet then made another bogey on the fourth before gunning down a birdie for the second straight time on No. 6.
With a 36-39 output, the Filipino ace dropped to 141, five strokes behind Thai Prom Meesawat, who wrested the solo lead at 136 after a scrambling 71, heading to the weekend play of the $1 million event serving as the final leg of the 2013 Asian Tour.
Tony Lascuña fired a 70 to gain a share of 17th at 141 but Mars Pucay missed the cut pegged at 146 despite a 71 for a 148, so did Jay Bayron, who made a 72-147, and Elmer Salvador, who had a 79-155.
Korean Mo Joong Kyung shot a 68 to move to joint second at 137 with Swede Rikard Karlberg, who had a 72, while Japanese Kodai Ichihara fired a 68 to tie Adam Groom of Australia and Thai Chawalit Palapol, who both had 69s, Austrian Kieran Pratt, who made a 70, and Taiwan’s Lin Wen-tang, who matched par 72, at 138.
