The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Close to a hundred players, including some of the country’s leading bets, plunge into action beginning today,  all looking for a win and the momentum needed to fuel their respective bids in the Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala regional age group tennis circuit presented by Tecnifibre in La Carlota, Negros Occidental in Bacolod City.

The five-day Group 3 tournament serves as the kick-off leg of a record 29-stage circuit sponsored by Palawan Pawnshop and Technifibre and sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association. The tour will be held at various tennis courts, including in the countryside where the sport enjoys tremendous support.

“Palawan Pawnshop and Technifibre have been in the forefront of tennis development for years and we will continue providing our youth top-notch tournaments like this,” said Palawan Pawnshop COO Bobby Castro. “This tournament will surely inspire our young players to achieve a higher level of play.”

Events on tap are the 10-unisex, and the boys and girls’ 12-U, 14-U, 16-U and 18-U categories. For details, contact Philta referee Bobby Mangunay at 0915-4046464.

Former Davis Cupper Roland So, manager of Technifibre, said the circuit is expected to produce a number of players who could be tapped, trained and developed into becoming members of the national pool.

From La Carlota, action shifts to the Center Court Tennis Club, also in Bacolod, for the second leg on Jan. 23-27.
