UFC's Cung Le helps Yolanda victims
MANILA, Philippines -- Ultimate Fighting Championship’s Cung Le has lent a helping hand to victims of super Typhoon Yolanda that devastated parts of the Visayas region.
Le, a Vietnamese-American fighting in the UFC’s middleweight division, took part in the benefit training session last night at the Sky Fitness Manila at The Podium that raised funds for typhoon survivors.
“I was asked by Mark Fischer (UFC-Asia chief) if I could take part in the effort and I said yes and told him to make it work,†said Le in Wednesday's presser at the ABS-CBN’s main building in Quezon City.
Le said it was Fil-Am Mark Munoz, who is also holding his own benefit training sessions in the US, who first broached the idea of the former coming to the Phl to help.
“It was really Mark’s idea and I welcomed it,†he said.
The 41-year-old Le, who also appears in movies while not fighting, has an impressive mixed martial arts record of 9-2 (win-loss) including his smashing first round win over former champion Rich Franklin in Macau, China two years ago.
Balls, television giant ABS-CBN’s cable sports channel, owns the rights of showing all UFC events in the country live.
