MANILA, Philippines - Pacesetting La Salle clobbered Santo Tomas in seven innings, 14-4, to storm to its third straight win in the UAAP Season 76 baseball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium yesterday.
The Archers broke away from a 1-1 standoff with an eight-run explosion in the third inning spiked by Carlos Laurel and Edward Flores’ two-run RBIs to set the tone for the rout that cemented their hold of the solo lead.
Staying one win off the Taft-based clouters was defending champion Ateneo which got back on the winning track and improved to 2-1.
The Blue Eagles erased the stigma of their 6-13 loss to La Salle with a 14-7 victory over University of the Philippines.
Facing a 3-5 deficit early on, the Ateneans made their move in the fourth frame with Felipe Remollo scoring off a throwing error and Adrian Bernardo and Leandro Banzon slamming back-to-back RBI singles to hand Ateneo the lead.
The Blue Eagles went on to score five runs in the next two innings to break away for good.
Meanwhile, the third game featuring National U (1-1) and Adamson (1-1) were suspended due to darkness. The Falcons enjoyed a 4-2 lead after six completed innings.
