UAAP Softball: Lady Falcons clip Lady Eagles to sweep 1st round
MANILA, Philippines -- Adamson's rampage in UAAP softball showed no sign of stopping as the Lady Falcons clobbered Ateneo, 10-0, in a three-inning demolition job on Saturday that completed their sweep of Season 76 first round action at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Rizza Bernardino blasted a four-run home run in the opening inning to lay the foundation for the rout that extended AdU's amazing win-streak to 40 games since Season 72, the most in Phl collegiate play.
"Masaya kami at tuloy tuloy ang panalo namin. Ang straight win ay bonus na sa amin, more ang unang target namin is ma-defend ang crown (Our main target is more on defending the crown, but we're thankful for 40 straight wins for a bonus)," said AdU coach Ana Santiago.
The four-peat-seeking Lady Falcons quickly went to work against the Lady Eagles, unloading nine runs off eight hits right on their first turn at bat.
All but one of AdU's batting lineup reached the plate in that searing offensive, with Queeny Sabobo even getting home twice.
Bernardino and Muyco combined for a no-hitter and struck out one and two batters, respectively.
Santiago said they expect the rest of the field to pose bigger threat in the second round.
Santo Tomas wound up second halfway through after picking up its fifth win in six outings at the expense of University of the Philippines, 9-3.
The Tigresses slammed in five runs off three hits in the first frame to seize the initiative and went on to parry the challenge of the Lady Maroons (2-4) to seal the seven-inning triumph.
National U came back from a 0-4 deficit to survive University of the East, 8-7. The Lady Bulldogs ended the first round at solo third with 4-2 while the Lady Warriors tied the Lady Maroons with 2-4.
The Lady Eagles and the Lady Archers brought up the rear with identical 1-5 cards.
