Pinay skaters train in Sokor

MANILA, Philippines - Three Filipina figure skaters and their coach leave for South Korea on Monday to take part in the 2014 Dream Program hosted by the city of PyeongChang.

Sofia Isabel Guidote, 11, Mikayla Shalom Fabian, 15, and Emee Marjorie Dy, 13, along with coach Arnaldo Mariñas, 42, were earlier endorsed by the Philippine Sports Commission to take part in the annual winter sports camp that promotes exchange of culture and friendship among the 160 youth representatives from 39 countries.

The event is held Jan. 13-25 and this year’s program will introduce an educational session called “Champions of Tomorrow” where participants will learn the Olympic values through physical activities and group discussions, using the Olympic Value Education Program tool kit.

Also, the participating athletes will visit the PyeongChang Alpensia Sports Park, including Ski-jumping Tower, to look around the Olympic venues and experience bobsledding and biathlon.

The Dream Program, an initiative established in 2004 by Gangwon Province during PyeongChang’s bid for the Olympic Games to promote the values and ideals of the Olympic Movement and expand the base of winter sports globally, is celebrating its 11th edition this year. In 2018, PyeongChang will be the host city of the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
