Tankers banner Phl bid in SEA Para Games

MANILA, Philippines - A six-member Philippine swimming delegation will see action  in the seventh Southeast Asian Para Games slated  in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar Jan. 14-20.

Leading the team is Arnel Aba, Speedo elite athlete and currently the SEA Para Games record holder in the 200m backstroke, 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley.

Aba, two-time gold medalist in the 2010 Asian Para Games, is set to compete in the 200m and 400m freestyle and 200m individual medley.

Gary Bejino, who recently copped silver and bronze medals in last year’s Asian Youth Para Games, will also be part of the swimming delegation.

Ernie Gawilan, 2011 SEA Para Games triple gold medalist and record-breaker, Daniel Damaso, Roland Sabido and Remegio Lobos make up the delegation.

The Philippines will be sending  58 athletes, accompanied by 17 officials, to compete in seven sports – archery, athletics, chess, powerlifting, swimming, table tennis, and wheelchair basketball.

Spearheading the team are chef de mision Ral Rosario, head coach Tony Ong, and assistant coach Paul Vista.

The SEA Para Games is a biennial multisport event held after the Southeast Asian Games. It is expected to gather more than 1,500 differently-abled athletes who will compete in 12 sports.
