MANILA, Philippines - Tennis will kick off sports activities in 2014 with the 25th Andrada Cup Division I Junior Tennis Championships slated Jan. 6-12 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
The country’s top 18-and-under players will see action in the long-running competition held in honor of former Philippine Tennis Association president and current Philippine Sports commissioner Buddy Andrada, which is celebrating its silver anniversary.
Topbilling the field are Eric Olivarez, Andrew Cano, Marcin Gonzales, Emmanuel Bacalaris, Jerome Romualdez, and Stephan Suarez and female players Mika Tampoco, Kim Iglupas, Katrina Orteza and Erika Manduriao.
Ranking points will be at stake in the netfest with the champion earning 200 points, runner-up 150, semifinalist 100 and quarterfinalist 70.
Andrada, who organized the annual event in 1989, will join Philta president and Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez, PSC chairman Richie Garcia and Philta secretary general Romy Magat for the opening ceremonies.
Specially-designed T-shirts and mugs marking the 25th year of the Andrada Cup will be handed out.
