St. Dominic, UMak top UCSAA volley

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - St. Dominic Savio College and University of Makati shared the limelight by winning the men’s and women’s volleyball competitions in the third Universities, Colleges and Schools Athletic Association (UCSAA).

St. Dominic emerged as the undisputed champion in the men’s division.

UMak finished second overall, while De La Salle University-Araneta wound up third overall in the men’s division.

In the women’s category, UMak reigned supreme with La Salle-Araneta coming in second and Colegio de San Lorenzo winding up third.

Equally impressive were Pasig Catholic College, which captured the title in the high school boys category; and CdSL, which bagged the crown in the high school girls division.

CdSL finished second while La Salle-Araneta came in third in the high school boys.

UMak and La Salle- Araneta finished second and third, respectively, in the high school girls.

Earlier, CdSL topped the men’s basketball tournament for the second straight year.

Handled by coach Boni Garcia, the Griffins defeated Pasig Catholic College, 86-79, at the Ynares Coliseum.

JC Foronda and Alvin Detubio provide  the 1-2  scoring punch as the Quezon City-based Gritty marked another dominant season.

“We’re very happy to win the UCSAA title again,” said Garcia, who also steered the Griffins to the title against St. Dominic Savio last year.

“The  whole team, from the players to the coaching staff, dedicates this victory to the school management and our students who supported us all the way,” added Garcia.

Access Computer College finished third overall.

St. Dominic defeated PCC, 82-58, to  rule the junior division. CdSL was third.
