MANILA, Philippines - The Ateneo junior golf team put on a strong performance to dominate the grade school division of the ICTSI-JGFP Junior Golf Tournament held in various golf courses in Metro Manila recently.
The Ateneo jungolfers topped the Midgets 1 (11-14 yrs old) division and finished second in the Midgets 2 (8-10 yrs old) category against a field teeming with talents.
Aside from winning the team competition in the five-to-play, three-to-count format event, Ateneo’s Aidric Chan, who placed fourth in this year’s Callaway Junior World in San Diego, California, copped the individual crown in Midgets I while Carl Corpus, also a veteran internationalist, took the second place honors.
Backing up Aidric and Carl were Karl dela Torre and Marc Corrales who helped the team dominate the final leg.
In the Midgets 2 class, the tandem of Maio Castaneda and Miggy Roque held their ground throughout the five-leg tournament which used the four-to-play, two-to-count format. Castaneda and Roque combined for 78 points in the final leg to secure their runner-up finish.
Yuan Arbatin and Lloyd Rico also turned in superb rounds to backstop the team against 40 other bets from Xavier School, La Salle GH, and La Salle Zobel.
Meanwhile, both Ateneo teams are gearing up for the national finals which will be held on Jan. 13-14 at the Orchard Golf and Country Club.
