Valley downs Alabang, clinches first Fed League crown

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Twice denied the last three years, Valley finally ended its quest for the Men’s Federation Golf League championship by beating Alabang in the finals.
Abbreviated wins in greensomes, high-low and aggregate at their home course did the trick for the Antipolo golfers who forced a 2.5-2.5 tie in their away game at Alabang then dominated their rivals at home for a 7-3 victory.

Valley went all the way to their first ever league championship in 16 years after topping the eliminations and blasting Canlubang in the semifinals of the tourney organized by the Federation of Golf Clubs Phils. Inc.
The victory came after two close misses in the finals by Valley in the past three years, losing to Riviera in 2010 and Wack Wack in 2011.

Chino Raymundo and RJ Barreto drew first blood for Valley by routing the  Jimbo Inigo/Kent Deary pair of Alabang 6&4 in greensomes. Marvin Mendoza and junior player Aidric Chan followed suit in high-low by also sending home Seve Roxas-Chua/Dax Garcia of Alabang early via a 5&4 decision.

With Valley needing just a point to clinch the tie and the match, Edmund Yee and Damasus Wong clinched it for the Antipolo team by defeating Monchu Nolasco and Christopher Popp of Alabang 4&3 in aggregate play.

That made the other matches of no bearing with Valley’s best-ball pair of Zaldy Villa/Chito Laureta agreeing to halve the point with OV Espiritu and Arnel Paras
and Matt Mendoza/Justin Limjap completing a 3&2 win over JB Garcia/Marvin Caparros for Valley.
