Highlands posts another WGAP sweep

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Tagaytay Highlands re-staked its claim as the country’s top ladies golf club as it put on another superb season-long performance, netting both the Infinity WGAP Circuit and the WGAP Cup crowns for the third straight time.

Unlike in the WGAP Circuit, which they ruled in emphatic fashion, highlighted by a pair of sweeps of three divisions in the third leg at Forest Hills and fifth leg at home in Midlands, the Highlanders needed to rally from a mediocre start in the WGAP Cup before turning back Alabang to rule the three-stage event and complete another sweep.

Finishing third with two points in the High-Low format first leg of the five-team WGAP Cup in Canlubang, the Highlanders struck back in the second stage (Greensome Format) at Forest Hills where they scored four to cushion the impact of their one-point performance in the final leg (Best Ball format) at Orchard.

They finished the three-stage WGAP Cup with seven points, edging Alabang, which fell short by half-a-point despite a fiery three-point production in the final stage of the annual event which gathered the top five teams from the WGAP Circuit.

It was Tagaytay Highlands’ third straight sweep, earning the team the perpetual trophy designed by Impy Pilapil.

Aguinaldo, which topped the first leg with three points. ended up third with 5.5 points while Sta. Elena wound up fourth with four points and Villamor placed fifth with three.

Jung Hee Kyung and Connie Mamaril defeated Villamor’s Marie Guerrero and Lisa Sarte, 4&3, while Diane Lee and Lilibeth de Villa routed Alabang’s Rita Horan and Mavis Deary, 5&4, to account for Highlands’ two points in the High-Low format while the pairs of Sofia Kim-Marissa Vergara, Lee-Leyeza, Daniella Uy-Dionne Co, and Jung-Margaret Tan delivered the goods in the Greensome.
