MANILA, Philippines - Tony Valera fired a four-under 68 to capture the overall crown while Thirdy Escaño carded a 74 to pocket the overall low gross title in the 2013 Chairman’s Charity Cup 2013 at the Manila Southwoods’ Legends and Masters courses in Carmona, Cavite recently.
Valera, a 6-handicapper, finished with 44 points under the Stableford scoring system, edging a host of others for the top plum in the annual one-day tournament held in honor of the club’s chairman Bob Sobrepeña and backed by Platinum presentor Mitsubishi Motors Phils. Corp./Diamond Motors Corp., Royal Caribbean/Baron Travel, Mit Air Sales Center and Resorts World Manila.
Ramon Villareal shot a gross 76 for net 41 points to cop the Division I crown, Raul Magpantay took the Division II plum with a gross 77 for net 43 points, Lito Ayson scored a gross 82 for net 44 points for the Division III title, while Sonny Tambunting Jr. turned in a gross 87 for net 44 points to snare the Division IV crown in the event supported by gold sponsors Agrexplore Corp., Alpha Quality Express, Inc., Turf Company and Warbird Securities and hole-in-one sponsors Kart Plaza and Turf Company-Texas Eagle.
TV and movie star Vic Sotto fired a gross 80 for net 44 points as he took the Seniors I title, Mizuho Uchida bagged the Seniors II crown with a gross 85 for net 44 points, Jung Hee Kyung shot a gross 79 for net 44 points for the Ladies I plum, Lilibeth de Villa won the Ladies II crown with 44 points from a gross 85, and Sevi Oliva made a gross 79 for a net 70 to rule the guest/sponsors division.
