MANILA, Philippines - Uno High School outlasted Grace Christian College in overtime, 76-74, to complete a 10-game sweep of the elims in the first Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association (PCYAA) basketball tournament at the Uno High School gym in Manila yesterday.
The UHS cagers fought back from as many as 23 points in the second quarter as they pounced on the GCC side’s shaky finish to escape with the come-from-behind win.
The Uneans capped their mighty comeback when Kyle Christian Tan buried a huge triple with 5.2 seconds left that sent the game in overtime.
UNH sustained its charge in extension, coming up with clutch plays to frustrate GCC and preserve its unbeaten record in the tournament sponsored by Boysen Paints, Valentino Watches and Clocks, Sony Xperia , Duralite Sandals and Nougat Peanut Bar.
The win is also expected to boost UHS’ bid as it goes up with host St. Jude Catholic School in the finals.
The Judenites finished the elims with an 8-2 record after downing St. Peter the Apostle School, 65-50.
The hosts, however, have to beat the Uneans twice to snatch the title. If they win on Wednesday, a rubber match will be held on Friday.
